I would like to start with some good news in that membership fees, as agreed at the AGM, will be Adults £20, Juniors £10, Social members £5. Rink fees £2 adults and £1Juniors, visitors/guests fees and hiring of equipment charges are posted on the wall in reception.

Membership fees are due before 1st September and must be paid before you play.

Please complete the membership form in FULL as past information will be destroyed in line with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), and could I please remind you that if you change address or telephone number please inform the membership secretary.

As removal of glasses/cups gets to be an ever increasing problem the Executive Committee have asked that team skips in leagues/roll-ups are responsible for ensuring their team’s drinking vessels are placed in the dishwasher.

The ladies and gentlemen’s toilets have been refurbished and the disabled one has been decorated and new flooring installed. Thank you to Steve Webster for his input and time on this.

In the case of inclement weather when telephoning the club the answering machine will inform you whether we are open or closed all day/part day.

Well done to all those that progressed well in the nationals and especially to our Lady Captain Jill Skinner who was brought in as a sub at the last minute to play in the Yorkshire Ladies Over 60’s singles competition held at Harrogate and won.

League Secretary

The season for the leagues commences on Monday 3rd September 2018 for 14 weeks. There will be NO ‘catch up week’, so teams must ensure they have enough players to cover holidays and illness. The 2nd half of the leagues will commence on Monday 10th December 2018 for a week.

The 2nd half of the leagues will recommence on Wednesday 2nd January 2019 through to Tuesday 2nd April 2019. Again there will be NO ‘catch up week’

The Christmas Programme commences on the 17th December, full details will be published at the

beginning of December.

Please try to keep up to date with your league games, I fully understand the outdoor season carries on during September, but it is unfair to other bowlers not to play your league games on time. You are responsible for having other players in your team to cover all eventualities. Should you require a substitute, please ensure they are not already in a team in that league and that they are playing in the correct position. (See the League rules attached to the league notice board or look in the Constitution & Rules Book)

Please can I ask you again to ensure your cards are filled in correctly and the scores are on the correct side, always fill in the NAMES of the players (initials & surname) in the correct order of play and agree the scores at the end before signing the card.

We still have spaces in the following leagues:-

Monday – Mixed Pairs A at 4.30pm – 2 places

Monday – Men’s Triples at 8.30pm - 1 place

Please contact me if you are interested in starting a team in these leagues.

New Members League - I am sure this will be filled at the beginning of the season. The start date for this league will be advised once the season starts.

Remember it’s your Club; if you are interested in any of the leagues or any other matter concerning the leagues; please do not hesitate to contact me.

Men’s Section News

Another very successful year with promotion as winners of the Over 55 Division 2 and runners up in the County Division 2. My thanks go to all the players for their support and efforts throughout the season.

We continue to be well represented in the Nationals with Area finalists in both the Over 60 Singles and the Mixed Fours and National Finalists in the Over 50 Triples.

James Frith and Cameron Legate both played for Yorkshire in the National Under 25 Inter County competition with Yorkshire successfully beating Devon in a very tight final to win the title, but congratulations must go to James in particular on winning the County Under 25 singles competition.

We continue to be well represented at County level with Dave Spilsbury, Ronnie Green and Steve Webster being regularly selected joined this year by John Jennison becoming a regular player. Congratulations to John and well done to all.

My sincerest thanks again go to the ladies who help with the catering both before and after the Inter Club matches in particular Jenny Woolley, Sheila Bastow and Margaret Chapman. Without these ladies these matches would not be half as enjoyable and the funds raised for the club would be sorely missed.

My thanks also go to Ronnie Green as Vice Captain and Jeff Bastow who has been a tremendous help with the Division 3 team assisting in selection and organisation.

I look forward to another good year in 2018/19 and wish everyone the very best for the coming season.

Ladies’ Section News

Once again we rounded off the season with our ladies’ dinner at Ascot House and an enjoyable evening was had by all who attended. My thanks again to Karen Bishop for organising the event.

This forthcoming season we will be playing in Division B of the Yorkshire Ladies League following relegation from Division A last season which was disappointing. However, in the North Eastern League we secured second place as we did last season.rrespective of the outcome, I thank each and every one of our ladies for their help and support in these two leagues.

On the 18 February 2018 we held the over 60’s Ladies Singles County play-off games. There were eight entries which was disappointing bearing in mind that five of these were from Harrogate which I might add I was not one of them. However, on the day, Helen Walker of York who had entered was unable to play because of a shoulder injury and I played in her place to make an even number of entries when Karen Bishop and myself became the finalists. Our finals day took place on the 8 April 2018 along with the finals of the Champion of Champions with Tina White and Jenny Wright playing in the pairs and Angela Spilsbury, Karen Bishop and Irene Small in the triples and what fantastic support we received, not just from our own Club members but from all the other Club finalists and their supporters too. There was some good bowling and close games which resulted in our pairs and triples teams being runners up but the icing on the cake for me was winning the Over 60’s Ladies Singles County final which rounded off my year as Yorkshire President perfectly.I attended the AGM of the Yorkshire Ladies Indoor Bowling Association on the 18 April 2018 which brought my Presidential year to an end when I handed over my chain of office to Brenda Foster of Scarborough.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Chairman Catharine Shaw, the Executive Committee and all our members for their overwhelming support over the past year for their help and assistance throughout my Presidential year and I sincerely hope that I have been a good ambassador for both the Yorkshire Ladies Indoor Bowling Association and in particular our Club. The fixture lists for the 2018/2019 season for the Yorkshire Ladies League, North Eastern League, Yetton and Egham Trophies are all on the ladies’ notice board so please make a note of these in your diary.Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all the ladies (and men) who have given their time and done such a marvellous job with the catering and in particular our men’s Captain, Roy Legate and his “team” for providing hot food on match days and not forgetting all the ladies who have made scones and baked cakes and all manner of wonderful things for our special events. As in previous years there will be a “catering” list on the Ladies’ Notice Board and your help again this coming season will be greatly appreciated.I look forward to seeing you all in September.

Club Championships

This year sees amendments to the Club Championship Rules, which accommodates the introduction of the Aussie Pairs and reflects issues that have been raised by members and the committee in the past. The new version will be on the notice board from the beginning of the season, please make yourself familiar with the changes.

In order to accommodate Mothering Sunday and Easter the Club Championships will be played on 16th/17th Match and 23rd/24th March, when entering please ensure you are available for both weekends.

In an attempt to ease the pressure of booking a rink in the early stages of the competition the club will be open for one Sunday in both October and November exclusively for Championship matches, see the notice board at the beginning of the season for details.

Enjoy your bowling, and good luck.

Barbara Leighton

At times parking can be at a premium and it is annoying when one car occupies two spaces. Please consider the need of other members and PARK WELL WITHIN THE WHITE LINES.

Speeding on the approach to the club is still an issue, watch your speed!
